Youth Football

1st and 2nd Grade Jr. Browns Flag Football
Game play is 5 on 5 and is designed to teach the basics of flag football.  This in house flag football league partners with the Cleveland Browns and NFL Flag. All teams will receive an official NFL Flag jersey and flag belt.  

Dates: August 26-October 19, games start September 14 
Location: Weiss Field 
Games: Saturday mornings-mid afternoons 
Practice: May practice up to 1 to 2 times per week based on volunteer coaches availability  
Teams: 
Avon Lake in-house teams
Picture Day: September 10th at ALHS 

3rd and 4th Grade Rookie Tackle Football 
Game play is 7 on 7 format and is designed to teach the fundamentals of tackle football.  Teams participate in and follow the rules of the Little Southwest Conference. 

Dates: July 29-late October 
Location: High school stadiums and parks of participating communities 
Games: Saturday mornings-mid afternoons 
Practice: May practice up to 1 to 2 times per week based on volunteer coaches availability     
Teams:
 Avon, Avon Lake, Bay Village, Fairview Park, North Olmsted, North Ridgeville, Olmsted Falls, Rocky River, and Westlake
Picture Day: September 10th at ALHS 

3rd and 4th Grade Flag Football 
Game play is 7 on 7 format and is designed to teach the fundamentals of football.  Teams participate in and follow the rules of the Little Southwest Conference. 

Dates: August 26-October 12, games start September 7 
Location: High school stadiums and parks of participating communities 
Games: Saturday mornings-mid afternoons 
Practice: May practice up to 1 to 2 times per week based on volunteer coaches availability

5th Grade Rookie Tackle Football (NEW)
Game play is 7 on 7 format and is designed to teach the fundamentals of tackle football.  Teams participate in and follow the rules of the Lake Erie Youth Football League.  Participants going into the 5th grade in the fall have the opportunity to choose between Rookie Tackle and Tackle based on parents preference and/or child's development and skill level.  

Dates: August 26-October 12, games start September 7

Games: Saturday mornings-mid afternoons 
Practice: May practice up to 2 to 3 times per week based on volunteer coaches availability   
Teams: 
Amherst, Avon, Avon Lake, Buckeye, Cloverleaf, Independence, Midview, North Ridgeville, and Rocky River 

Picture Day: September 10th at ALHS 

5th and 6th Grade Tackle Football 
Game play is 11 on 11 format and is designed to teach the fundamentals of tackle football.  Teams participate in and follow the rules of the Little Southwest Conference.

Locations: High school and middle school stadiums and parks of participating communities 
Games: Saturday mornings-mid afternoons 
Practices: May practice up to 2 to 3 times per week based on volunteer coaches availability

DEADLINE TO REGISTER IS JULY 21 


THE YOUTH FOOTBALL PROGRAM RELIES ON VOLUNTEERS.  VOLUNTEER COACHES NEEDED FOR ALL LEVELS.  PLEASE INDICATE INTEREST AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION OR CONTACT THE RECREATION DEPARTMENT AT 440-930-4130.  

The City of Avon Lake, like OHSAA, in no way endorses the use of aftermarket helmet accessories like caps and visors.  Participants choosing to use any type of aftermarket accessory must have a signed Football Helmet Aftermarket Waiver of liability on record with the Recreation Department prior to participating in any football activity using such accessory.  

TACKLE EQUIPMENT PICK UP WILL TAKE PLACE ON JULY 22 AND JULY 23 FROM 4:30PM-6PM AT BLESER PARK GARAGE. IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND AN APPOINTMENT MUST BE MADE OR ADDITIONAL DATES WILL BE SET UP.
