Open Gym Basketball
Avon Lake Parks & Recreation Department is now offering a Jr. Shoremen and Shoregals program for the 2024 season. Participants will receive a branded reversible jersey and shorts.  
 
Games and practices will take place at the Anchor Recreational Facility and/or one of the many gyms throughout Avon Lake City Schools.
 
Practice Schedules: Practices will be based on coach’s availability and begin the week of January 8, 2024. Practice take place anytime from 5pm-9pm Monday-Friday. 1st/2nd grade practices before their games on weekends. 3rd/4th grade practice one day a week. 5th-8th grade practice two times a week. Practice days and times are up to the coach. 
 
Picture Schedules: Pictures will be taken on your respective gameday on February 3rd or February 4th. Pictures are typically taken right before games. 

Game Schedules: Boys grades 1-6 will play on Saturday between 9am-3pm. Boys grades 7-8 and all girls’ divisions will play on Sundays 12pm-4pm. All schedules are subject to change based gym availability.  Games begin January 20 and end March 2, 2024.   
 
Volunteers: The Recreation Department relies on parent volunteers to coach the basketball teams. Upon registration, if interested in being a volunteer head or assistant coach please select "yes" at the time of registration. No experience is necessary and we assist in coach education for practice planning and team management.

Please note that the amount of teams and the timing of sending out information in regards to the season may be based off of the quantity of volunteers we have at the time of registration. 

Team Placement: All teams are divided equally by grade. Whole teams will not be accepted. Any player requests will be taken into consideration but not guaranteed. 
 
Registration Deadline: November 27th
**Registrations accepted following the deadline will be based on availability and may be subject to a late fee.**
 
For the safety of all participants - players are asked to carry their basketball shoes into all facilities and change into their basketball shoes before entering the gymnasium.  Thanks for your help!
