Yoga in the Park is back! We, along with our studio partners, are excited to host another summer of downward dogs. Be sure to view the schedule below to see the class styles and descriptions.  Classes will be held at Veterans' Memorial Park - 32756 Lake Road.Weekends: June 7th - September 28th*Fridays 7am: Sunrise Yoga with Cultivate YogaSaturdays 9am: All Levels Flow Yoga with Avon Lake YogaSundays 9am: Summer Yoga on the Lake with Cultivate YogaAll classes run ~1 hour.Cost: This is a FREE class, however, donations for our volunteer instructors are appreciated.Where: Veterans' Memorial Park - 32756 Lake Road.Parking: Parking is available at Veterans' Memorial Park in front of the Lakehouse and the Folger Home. FREE PROGRAMJoin us this summer at Walker Road Park Reservoir for another year of our popular Fishing with Friends program! Beginning Wednesday, June 12th through Saturday, July 27th on Wednesdays/Thursdays/Fridays/Saturdays from 10:00AM - 2:00PM at Walker Road Park.SPECIAL FLY FISHING FRIDAYS with Firelands Fly Fishers:  June 14th, 21st, 28th and July 5th 10am - 2pm.  Rods, flies and instruction provided, casting from the shores. Note:  No Fishing with Friends on July 4th - Enjoy the Holiday!Poles, bait and knowledgeable attendants will be available.  Catch Bluegill, Bass and Catfish!  Stop up once to give it a try or make it a part of your weekly routine!AGE RESTRICTIONS-This program is designed for kids 15 and under (families encouraged!). Other ages may be accommodated but please check with the attendant.-All youth under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a permission form prior to their fishing experience with the Avon Lake Parks & Recreation Department Staff on-site.-Children under 12 years old must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible person, 14 years old or older. Children under 6 years old need to have a responsible individual within arm’s reach at all times.-Extreme weather may force this event to be cancelled, but light rain should not. Check Facebook for updates.This program is made possible with the support of ODNR Division of Wildlife, the USFWS Wildlife & Sportfish Restoration Act and Erie Outfitters.

This class is designed to increase Mobility and Flexibility for all who are interested in increasing and maintaining daily functionality regardless of their range of motion. The program is especially helpful to those suffering the effects of Parkinson's Disease and Multiple Sclerosis. Standing upper-body strength work alternated with low impact cardio using a chair for standing support. A perfect 50+ class that incorporates stretching, balance, agility and strength, along with fun music. This class utilizes various equipment, such as weights, exercise balls, drumming sticks, and much more. Gentle Yoga Standing and seated yoga poses to increase flexibility, balance and range of motion.  Modifications for poses will be offered, but students must be able to get down to the floor and up again unassisted.LEVEL 2 CLASSGentle Flow Yoga This class incorporates simple flowing sequences to warm up the body, as well as slower paced movements focusing on alignment, strength, balance and flexibility. Each week will be a different area. Muscle-conditioning blocks and activity specific intervals to improve cardiovascular health and functional skill. This summer we are offering art classes for resident adults 55 and over.  We have 7 sessions to offer using various techniques of drawing, painting, and collage as listed below. All materials will be provided you just need to show up and let your creativity to run wild.   Cost:  $10 per sessionAge: 55 and up Dates: June 18th - August 13th (excluding 7/4) Day: Tuesdays Time: 12:00pm - 1:30 pm Location: Lake House at Veterans' Memorial Park (32756 Lake Rd.) Instructor:  Christine Seeholzer Questions: 440-930-4135 Registration Starts:  Wednesday, March 29th at 9amRegistration Ends: Tuesday, June 11th at 12pm June 18th: Series WorkshopClass description:Students will discuss what makes a successful series of artwork. Then, students will experiment with Sharpies and a solvent to create abstracted tie-dye artwork. Students will also learn how to create a marker monoprint with a foam printing plate, washable markers and pencils. June 25th: Cacti Painting WorkshopClass description:After using a drawing guide or a live demo, students will work on their composition of their cacti in pencil or directly in Sharpie. Once all Sharpie details are in place, students will use watercolor to paint their composition. While still wet, students will add salt and alcohol drops to create various effects in the background. July 2nd: Oil Pastel Trace MonotypeClass description:Participants will use drawings or reference material and transfer the image onto cardstock using oil pastels as a transfer vehicle.. If time allows, students can add a watercolor monoprint on top using water bottles, ziploc bags and washable markers. July 9th: Impressionism Floating Chalk PastelsClass description: After learning about some of the more famous Impressionist Painters in art history, students will draw background details such as branches of a forest, flowers in a pond, boats in a pond, etc. and then use a popsicle sticks to scrape colors onto a piece of copy paper for use in the printmaking bath. Students will then slide their paper under the flakes of the chalk floating in the water to capture the chalk pieces on top of their drawings. July 30th: Georgia O'Keefe Giant Flower Paintings and Paper SculpturesClass description:Students will use acrylic paint on large construction paper to create large beautiful flowers. Students will also be able to create paper sculptures of flowers using construction paper, scissors, and glue sticks.August 6th: Let's Go CampingClass description:Students will use various supplies to follow the steps to recreate summery camping themed painting. August 13th: Wet Chalk DrawingClass description:Reference an image or create an abstract design with tape. Explore the vibrant effects of chalk pastel as water releases the pigment on and blends against the contrast of black paper. Add details with acrylic paint pens as desired.

Non-residents may be considered based on league rules. Teams participate in the Emerald Necklace League and may participate in a variety of tournaments throughout the season. Home games are played at Bleser Park, Weiss Field, Learwood, and ALHS. Teams have access to the Anchor Recreation Facility for indoor practice from January - March/April. Up to two teams MAY be formed for any age level based on te number of qualified evaluated participants. Roster sizes may vaary. All current and new players are required to tryout in order to be considered for a roster. PLEASE NOTE: If you cannot attend please still register for your age group. Any additional dates will be TBD but everyone is strongly encouraged to show up on the original dates.

This summer we are offering art classes for resident adults 55 and over.  We have 7 sessions to offer using various techniques of drawing, painting, and collage as listed below. June 25th: Cacti Painting WorkshopClass description:After using a drawing guide or a live demo, students will work on their composition of their cacti in pencil or directly in Sharpie. Once all Sharpie details are in place, students will use watercolor to paint their composition. While still wet, students will add salt and alcohol drops to create various effects in the background. July 2nd: Oil Pastel Trace MonotypeClass description:Participants will use drawings or reference material and transfer the image onto cardstock using oil pastels as a transfer vehicle.. If time allows, students can add a watercolor monoprint on top using water bottles, ziploc bags and washable markers. July 9th: Impressionism Floating Chalk PastelsClass description: After learning about some of the more famous Impressionist Painters in art history, students will draw background details such as branches of a forest, flowers in a pond, boats in a pond, etc. and then use a popsicle sticks to scrape colors onto a piece of copy paper for use in the printmaking bath. Students will then slide their paper under the flakes of the chalk floating in the water to capture the chalk pieces on top of their drawings. July 30th: Georgia O'Keefe Giant Flower Paintings and Paper SculpturesClass description:Students will use acrylic paint on large construction paper to create large beautiful flowers. Students will also be able to create paper sculptures of flowers using construction paper, scissors, and glue sticks.August 6th: Let's Go CampingClass description:Students will use various supplies to follow the steps to recreate summery camping themed painting. August 13th: Wet Chalk DrawingClass description:Reference an image or create an abstract design with tape. This summer we are offering art classes for resident adults 55 and over.  We have 7 sessions to offer using various techniques of drawing, painting, and collage as listed below. June 25th: Cacti Painting WorkshopClass description:After using a drawing guide or a live demo, students will work on their composition of their cacti in pencil or directly in Sharpie. Once all Sharpie details are in place, students will use watercolor to paint their composition. While still wet, students will add salt and alcohol drops to create various effects in the background. July 2nd: Oil Pastel Trace MonotypeClass description:Participants will use drawings or reference material and transfer the image onto cardstock using oil pastels as a transfer vehicle.. If time allows, students can add a watercolor monoprint on top using water bottles, ziploc bags and washable markers. July 9th: Impressionism Floating Chalk PastelsClass description: After learning about some of the more famous Impressionist Painters in art history, students will draw background details such as branches of a forest, flowers in a pond, boats in a pond, etc. and then use a popsicle sticks to scrape colors onto a piece of copy paper for use in the printmaking bath. Students will then slide their paper under the flakes of the chalk floating in the water to capture the chalk pieces on top of their drawings. July 30th: Georgia O'Keefe Giant Flower Paintings and Paper SculpturesClass description:Students will use acrylic paint on large construction paper to create large beautiful flowers. Students will also be able to create paper sculptures of flowers using construction paper, scissors, and glue sticks.August 6th: Let's Go CampingClass description:Students will use various supplies to follow the steps to recreate summery camping themed painting. August 13th: Wet Chalk DrawingClass description:Reference an image or create an abstract design with tape. This lunch is offered the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 12:00 PM for the low cost of $7.00 per person. Gentle Yoga Standing and seated yoga poses to increase flexibility, balance and range of motion.  Modifications for poses will be offered, but students must be able to get down to the floor and up again unassisted.LEVEL 2 CLASSGentle Flow Yoga This class incorporates simple flowing sequences to warm up the body, as well as slower paced movements focusing on alignment, strength, balance and flexibility. Modifications for poses will be offered, but students must be able to get down to the floor and up again unassisted.LEVEL 2-3 CLASSFocused Gentle YogaThis class will move through traditional yoga postures focused on specific areas of the body. Each week will be a different area. This is a great class for those who may be experiencing physical complaints or for anyone looking for a gentle movement and breathing practice.LEVEL 1-2 CLASSYin YogaThis class is a gentle and relaxing style of yoga that works deeply into the connective tissues and joints of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine and is suitable for beginners or advance students looking for a restful class that focuses on restoring flexibility and/or working deeply into joints and tissues. Students must be able to get on and off the floor unassisted. Suggestion to bring a blanketLEVEL 1 CLASSYoga FlowFlow-based (continual movement between poses) class tying breath to movement between individual postures. Focus will be on strengthening, lengthening, and stretching through a creative series of postures in constant motion. In order to thrive in a flow-based class, your body should be healthy and free of injury and you should have an understanding of the individual postures.LEVEL 3 CLASSChair YogaThe chair serves as a stable foundation, allowing you to deepen your stretches, engage your muscles, and experience the benefits of yoga in a safe and comfortable manner.LEVEL 1 CLASSIf you do not have SilverSneakers or Renew Active, there is an $8.00 drop-in fee per class or you can purchase a 12 visit punch pass membership for $60.00.
