2023 Partial Annular Solar Eclipse Viewing Party
This program is currently unavailable. Click here to view all of our current programs.
UPDATE: Due to the weather forecast and 96% cloud coverage predicted, we are changing our plans.
Unfortunately, there is a slim chance of seeing the partial eclipse, but if you pre-registered for the event, you can pick up your FREE solar eclipse glasses at the Avon Lake Public Library - 32649 Electric Blvd. We will have a table set up 11:30am - 2:30pm. After that, you can pick them up from the library staff.
Frankie B's Food Truck will be in the library parking lot.
ORIGINAL INFORMATION:
Join us at Bleser Park to view the Partial Annular Solar Eclipse on Saturday, October 14, 2023 11:30am - 2:30pm. Avon Lake will experience a 33.56% eclipse of the sun.
Resident registration is open now.
Non-Resident Pre-Registration starts at 9am Monday, October 9th, 2023 – while supplies last.
The partial eclipse begins at 11:48am. Maximum totality is at 1:07pm. The partial eclipse ends at 2:28pm. Entire Eclipse will last 2 hours and 41 minutes. Come and safely view the partial eclipse.
Avon Lake Resident Astronomer, Suzie Dills, will be onsite with a special telescope for safely viewing the sun.
Avon Lake Public Library will be partnering with us to provide grab-and-go crafts. Avon Lake Parks & Recreation will be providing crafts, moon pies, and eclipse gum, and other giveaways while supplies last.
Food trucks will be on hand for food purchases.
This is a FREE event. The first 250 people to pre-register will receive FREE solar eclipse glasses at the event. Each member of your party (including non-residents) must have an account with us to pre-register.
NOTE: You do not need to register to attend, only register if you want to try to get free glasses. You must attend the event in order to claim your free glasses.
We encourage everyone to bring solar eclipse glasses or make their own Cereal Box Viewer if you didn't pre-register and get glasses.
You should NOT look at the sun without proper protective glasses. Sunglasses do not protect your eyes from looking at the sun during a partial eclipse.
This event is weather dependent. Stay tuned to https://www.facebook.com/ALParksandRec for updates.
