Hooks for Hunger- June 27, 2020 has been canceled due to Covid19
However...with the number of people in our community effected by this virus, Community Resource Services needs our support more than ever. So in place of the fishing tournament a "Fill da Boat" food drive is being held. Join us on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Miller Road Boat Launch from 11:00 am-2:00 pm and help us "Fill da Boat". Each person that donates a canned good or makes a monetary donation will receive 1 raffle ticket for 1 of 3 raffle baskets! All canned goods and monetary donations will go directly to CRS.
This charity fishing tournament was started in 2013 by a local group of fisherman, partnered with The Avon Lake Parks and Recreation Department. All the proceeds for this event go to Community Resource Services (CRS). CRS is a responsive, community-based organization whose mission is to diminish the effects of poverty in Avon and Avon Lake. They provide basic needs assistance and individualized resource and referral services in a compassionate and confidential manner.
In 2019 alone, they assisted the residents of Avon and Avon Lake a total of 7,650 times through their various programs. This included:
113,000 pounds of food distributed through their on-site food pantry.
229 kids were sent back to school with school supplies.
Financial assistance was provided 184 times to prevent utility disconnections.
The Santa’s Workshop program provided 332 children with Christmas gifts, pajamas, coats and boots.
Financial assistance was provided 101 times to prevent eviction or homelessness.
Car repairs or fuel gift cards provided 411 times.
In total, CRS served 1,245 individuals which included 149 seniors, 545 adults and 551 children during 2019.
Our funds raised has increased from $5,000 in 2013 to our record high of $38,500 in 2018, bringing our lifetime contribution to $126,000 in just 7 years. This year, we are asking for your pledge to help us reach our 2020 goal of $40,000.
