The Spring Fishing Derby
WHEN: Saturday, May 4th from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
WHERE: Walker Road Park, 31621 Walker Road, Avon Lake
WHO: Kids age 15 and under
WHAT: Join us for the annual Fishing Derby where kids have the opportunity to catch Trout, Largemouth Bass, Bluegill, BIG catfish and more. BONUS: All Trout can be taken home for a delicious fish dinner. Boat club members will be available to clean the trout for the kids. All other fish must be released.
Measuring stations will be available around the lake to measure any fish caught by the kids. A leaderboard will be updated throughout the competition.
This event is made possible by the Avon Lake Boat Club, Avon Lake Recreation Department, Ohio Division of Wildlife, Erie Outfitters, and the generous support from Cabela’s.
You are encouraged to bring your own fishing pole and gear. There are a limited number of fishing poles available to share on a first-come first served basis. Time may be limited on shared poles so that everyone gets a turn. Erie Outfitters is providing nightcrawlers.
This event is FREE! Pre-registration is required. Registration begins Wednesday, April 10th at 9:00 am. The registration deadline is Friday, May 3rd at noon.

The Avon Lake Boat Club is providing FREE delicious pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, and drinks while supplies last!
The Fishing Derby will be held rain or shine; however, the Derby may be canceled in the event of severe weather. Check Avon Lake Parks & Recreation Department’s Facebook Page for updates the day of the event. There is no makeup day for this event if canceled due to severe weather.
